OILY WASTE
Handling oily water and waste responsibly and with industry best practices
At Hans Langh we treat oily waste, ship bilge water and scrubber wash water in our modern treatment facility, which represents the best practices in the industry.
We collect waste and water with our own equipment and deliver it safely to our Piikkiö treatment facility. Our facility is certified and operates under an environmental permit, which guarantees continuous regulatory oversight and responsible operations.
The waste we treat goes through a multi-stage process during which impurities are separated and neutralized effectively. During treatment, the oily waste is divided into three fractions:
-
pumpable oil suitable for reuse
-
solid, pasty oil waste, which is delivered to Riihimäki for appropriate further processing
-
purified water
In the final stage of the process, the water is directed through a monitoring system which ensures that the water entering the sewer network meets the strictest requirements for ppm, pH and turbidity values.
Environmental responsibility is at the heart of our operations. We certified our environmental management system to meet the ISO 14001 standard in 2000, and are constantly developing our processes for the benefit of the environment as well as our customers.
From Riihimäki the oily waste is delivered for reprocessing so that the oil can be recycled for industrial use as lubricating oil. As a by-product this process produces bitumen, which is then used, for example, to manufacture asphalt and roofing felt.
